Start 3D Model Builder (Geometry Pack)
Click on and Project
Open Drawing Curves Cone
Draw 2 points
Draw a point at 0
Draw a point at 20
Press Pick as the action
Click on point (number 2 in our model) to select it
Copy and rotate
Point 0 will be the centre of the rotation...
Press 3D Cursor as the action
Click on point 0 or drag the 3D Cursor back to point 0
Press Turn as the action
Copy (hold CONTROL key) and turn / rotate the point
around to (20)
Copy the points
Copy (hold CONTROL key) and turn / rotate the point
again, each to (20), to create the points as illustrated
Select the points
Press Pick as the action
Click on the 4 points to select them (while holding the SHIFT key down)
Copy the points
Point 0 will be the centre of the rotation...
Press 3D Cursor as the action
Click on point 0 or drag the 3D Cursor back to point 0
Copy (hold CONTROL key) and turn / rotate the 4 points
around to (80)
Copy (hold CONTROL key) and turn / rotate the 4 points
again, around to (80), to create the points as illustrated
Copy and rotate the last point
Press Pick as the action
Click on point (number 15 in our model) to select it
Copy (hold CONTROL key) and turn / rotate the point
around to (20)
Draw the line
Press Draw as the action
Press Lines to draw a line
Draw a line around the base of the cone
Draw the top point of the cone
Press View Rotate as the action
Rotate the view as illustrated
Press Points to work with points
Draw a point at
0 0 40
Draw triangles on the side
Press Triangles to draw triangles
Draw triangles on the side of the cone (maximum 4 or 5 points per triangle)
Finish the side of the cone
Press View Rotate as the action
Rotate the view to turn the cone around
Press Draw as the action
Draw more triangles as illustrated
Finish drawing the triangles around the sides of the cone
Draw triangles on the base
Press View Rotate as the action
Rotate the view to show the base of the cone
Press Draw as the action
Draw the triangles on the base of the cone in the same way (maximum 4 or 5 points per triangle)
Finish the cone
Finish drawing the triangles on the base of the cone
Change the lighting
Press the lighting button to show smooth lighting
Press the normals button to show lighting normals
The sides of the cone are nice and smooth but the base is wrong, it should have a flat color, so we will fix it
Pick triangles
Pick the triangles at the base of the cone
Copy the triangles
Copy (hold CONTROL key) and move the triangles
down away from the base as illustrated...
Delete the old base
Delete the triangles at the base of the cone
Move the new base back
Move the triangles
back up into position as illustrated...
Base is now flat
Can you see that the new triangles on the base now have their own set of normals that are
independent of the sides of the cone?
Press Save to save the model
